Special Conditions
The position is interchangeable with credit controllers and debt administrators in the Legal Procedures and Administration Sections.
Job Purpose
To carry out the following functions in the SIE section related to arrears collection in accordance with the Council’s policies and procedures, as well as the relevant legislation.
Key Responsibility Areas:
- Administers and oversees the production of reminder letters and final demands.
- Monitors the issuance of summons to debtors who are required to appear in court for a hearing.
- Coordinates the preparation of the debtor’s outstanding schedule and delivers it to the council’s attorneys/legal department for collection.
- Prepares all necessary notices, advertisements, and schedules for the sale’s execution.
- Communicates with property owners regarding sale-in- execution.
- Observes auctions and court proceedings during the SIE process, as well as conducting interviews with rate payers.
- Processes and collects journal entries, legal fees, and judgment fees.
- Updates payments for ratepayers who have been handed over.
- Communicates with Town Planning and Real Estate regarding properties for which a sale in execution has been confirmed.
- Liaises with attorneys after the sale during the execution process.
- Sends letters to ratepayers informing them of the sale date and location.

Essential Requirements:
- Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) with Mathematics, Accounting, or an equivalent qualification, as well as a financial certificate.
- 3 years of relevant experience.
- Computer literacy.
