Objective of the Position
The objective is to recruit and cultivate a highly proficient workforce that contributes to the growth of Transnet’s business, hence enhancing productivity, profitability, and the employer’s financial performance.
In alignment with Transnet’s Human Capital Development Strategy, Transnet Academy provides extensive apprenticeship training for learners to become craftsmen across several disciplines and locations.
Output Positions
- Installation of machinery in the workshops
- Restoration and upkeep of all structures and machinery
- Diagnosis and repair of mechanical faults in electrohydraulic machinery, particularly motorized equipment.
- Execute preventive maintenance and document defects
- Mechanical refurbishment, alterations, and enhancements of machinery and equipment
Credentials and Expertise
- NTC2 with four relevant trade topics successfully completed:
- or a Technical National Certificate Vocational Level 4 or higher with seven subjects passed,
- or a Technical Matric Certificate including passed Pure Mathematics and Physical Science together with relevant trade theory completed.
- All subjects must be passed with a minimum score of 50%.

- Applicants must be South African residents with no existing bursary commitments from other organizations.
- Priority will be accorded to candidates classified as South African Youth (aged 35 and below).
- Preference would be accorded to candidates with exceptional academic achievements.
- Selection shall be conducted in accordance with the Company’s Employment Equity Plan and Recruitment and Selection Policy.
- All training will occur at the appropriate Transnet Faculty of Engineering Campus.
- Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, there is no assurance of permanent employment with Transnet.
