ASSISTANT: RIGGING X3 (GRADE A)

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Eleventh grade or a comparable credential
  • 2-3 years of expertise in engineering within a mining or industrial context is important and required.
  • Proficiency in mobile crane hand signals
  • Proficient understanding of all rigging and lifting apparatus
  • Proficient understanding of SWL tags and nameplates
  • Capability to work flexible hours and undertake standby responsibilities, including Sundays and public holidays.
  • Capability to execute physical tasks (unassisted loading and unloading of equipment and materials, bending, climbing, etc.)
  • South African Citizenship

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver effective assistance within the Engineering Rigging Section
  • Facilitate the attachment of loads to rigging for support or preparation for movement, utilizing hand and power instruments.
  • Support the rigger in slinging, securing, low balancing, and communicating hand signals to the mobile crane operator.
  • Facilitate the verification of compliance for all lifting equipment by conducting visual inspections of chain links, slings, and safety latches.
  • Facilitate the installation, configuration, and maintenance of rigging, support structures, hoists, and pulling equipment, employing both hand and power tools.
  • Verify that all mechanical lifting apparatus, including chain blocks and coffin hoists, are adequately oiled and prepared for operation.
  • Verify that SWL badges and nameplates are prominently displayed on all lifting apparatus.
  • Comply with organizational standards, policies, and protocols.
  • Comply with MHSA standards and Gold1’s safety principle: “Nothing is so important that it cannot be accomplished safely.”
