Handyman Description of the Job

The Dis-Chem Pharmacies Distribution Centre in Midrand is looking to add a Handyman to their team and is currently accepting applications for this position.
The primary objective of this position will be to provide assistance with general plumbing, electrical, welding, and carpentry work, as well as with the repairs and maintenance of the building and its surroundings.
Provide assistance to the plumber and the electrician as needed.

vEssential Qualifications.

Minimum of one to two years’ experience in building maintenance a
Matric or equivalent.

Handyman Particulars of the Job.

The Handyman is going to be in charge of the overall maintenance and operation of the conveyor.
This includes starting and stopping the conveyor at the appropriate times at the beginning and the end of each shift respectively.
When there are jams, when another employee is in danger, or when there is work that needs to be done on the machine, the worker is responsible for making sure that the E-Stop is activated.
When the motors trip, clear any errors that appear on the variable speed drives (VSD).

Switch out the compressors and make sure to release any water that has condensed. Please let us know when the compressors have reached their maintenance interval.
Inspect, troubleshoot, and coordinate the operation of the conveyor. Help the Lilac team out with some routine maintenance tasks.
It is important to keep diverting sensors clean on a regular basis or whenever they start causing problems.

Make sure that all problems are fixed in a timely manner and that the repaired areas are left in a secure condition.
Help change the poly-v belts that are on the conveyors, if possible.
When needed, assist with loading the boxes onto the conveyor by providing assistance with the loading process.
Boxes need to be straightened out and aligned so that jams can be avoided and a high read rate can be maintained on both the camera scanner and the linear scanner.

Ensure that you are in compliance with the company’s health and safety standards.
Please report any issues and provide a summary of the actions that have been taken.
This includes having the knowledge necessary to know when to summon the LILAC standby crew.
Keep daily logs of the installation and maintenance being performed.
The standards set forth by Dis-Chem must be followed with regard to housekeeping.
Make it a habit to keep your workspace clean and organized at all times.

Handyman Capabilities

A familiarity with the rules and regulations governing occupational health and safety.
A fundamental comprehension of the operation of the conveyor and the function it serves.
Take a logical and intellectual approach to the issues you’re facing.
Capable of performing multiple tasks at once.
Powerful interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively within a setting that emphasizes teamwork.
Time should be managed efficiently.
Competence with Numbers
Read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

Particular aspects of the working environment:

Citizenship in South Africa, MIE, clean criminal record, and credit
A valid driver’s license and/or access to your own vehicle that you can rely on
Must be willing to perform any other function within the department, should the need arise, in addition to being willing to rotate to different locations within the department as necessary.
Walking and standing, climbing, kneeling, pushing and pulling objects, lifting and moving objects, and repetitive bending are all examples of the types of physical activities required.
