Job Function:
Responsible for performing mechanical work on machines, assemblies, and manufactured parts using various processes, tools, and machines in accordance with standard operating procedures.
Requirements
- Grade 12 or NQF level equivalent.
- N3 Mechanical Engineering.
- Mechanical Fitter or Fitter/Turner Trade Certificate.
- Welding experience / boilermaking
- At least 3 years of previous experience in the FMCG industry.
- Working knowledge of pneumatics, pumps, conveyors, shafts, sprockets, bearings, and gearboxes.
- Valid driver’s license.
- A willingness to work overtime, shifts, and weekends as needed.
Duties and responsibilities
- Reduce breakdowns and downtime in the plant to avoid unnecessary costs.
- Install, maintain, and repair all mechanical equipment and systems in the plant.
- Report machine failures and breakdowns to management, and record them on a daily log sheet.
- Ensure that job cards are filled out correctly and signed off by production and maintenance.
- Cut, thread, bend, and connect hydraulic and pneumatic pipes and lines.
- Dismantle faulty equipment and assemblies, then repair or replace any defective parts.
- Continuously improve all equipment and installation procedures.
- Continuously troubleshoot mechanical equipment.
- Visual inspection of parts.
- Every day, test the machine’s operation.
- Fix any issues that may arise during the shift.
- Comply with all occupational health and safety requirements.
- Complete all required training interventions.
- Encourage employees to follow standard practices and processes in order to provide quality services.
- Performs other duties as assigned by line managers.
Skills
- Basic awareness training for manual handling, working at heights, and confined spaces.
- Understanding of production procedures.

- Able to read manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
