Position Overview
Tasked with overseeing activities related to general operations within the DAF unit area, feather area, drainage area, and the entirety of the abattoir, in strict adherence to established instructions, policies, and procedures.
Prerequisites
- Completion of Grade 12 or an equivalent qualification at NQF Level 4.
- Capable of performing duties in heated abattoir environments characterized by strong odors, including those of feathers and blood.
- The applicant must possess a satisfactory level of physical fitness, as the role entails engaging in physical labor and maintaining a standing position for prolonged durations.
- A readiness to engage in overtime labor, including shifts, during weekends and holidays as necessitated.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Conducting maintenance on the DAF unit, feather press, sump basin, and feather area.
- It is imperative to ensure that all equipment is thoroughly cleaned, and that any damaged or malfunctioning machinery and apparatus are promptly reported to the shift supervisors.
- Assist in the examination of damaged shackles and yokes of the airline chiller during the initiation process.
- It is imperative to ensure that the machinery operates continuously throughout the entire production period, with all malfunctions being reported promptly as they arise.
- Facilitating the replacement of the plucker digits during the scheduled maintenance activities over the weekend.
- It is imperative to verify that all valves, scrapers, screens, and compressors are functioning optimally.
- Ensuring that the drainage pit room is thoroughly cleaned and prepared for commencement of operations.
- Ensuring that the feather area is maintained in a spotless and prepared condition.
- Ensuring that the water filtration unit is thoroughly cleaned and prepared for initiation.
Required Competencies
- Comprehension of production methodologies.
- Familiarity with health and safety protocols, specifically pertaining to personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Collaborative team member.
- Capable of performing effectively under duress.
