Intercare Sandton Sub-Acute Hospital, located in Morningside, Johannesburg, is looking for an experienced Ward Secretary. This position’s primary responsibility is to assist nursing staff in maintaining ward operations by performing a variety of administrative and customer service tasks.

CRITICAL OUTPUTS:

  • Collaborate with nursing staff to provide prompt and efficient responses to patients and customers.
  • To ensure positive working relationships, communicate effectively and promote a supportive team approach.
  • Provide organisational support for patient movement and care delivery as directed by patient care teams.
  • Answer all phone calls and assist in the reception area as needed.
  • Where necessary, escalate any concerns to the appropriate line manager.
  • Assist in the completion of admission documents.
  • Maintain clinical files in accordance with relevant policies and legislation, including patient admissions and discharges.
  • Develop and implement cost-effective administrative initiatives.
  • Reporting faulty equipment and system problems to the appropriate department (e.g., IT, maintenance).

REQUIREMENTS REQUIRED:

  • Matric/Grade 12
  • Office Administration qualification is advantageous.
  • At least two years of administrative experience in a medical facility.
  • AS400 System experience is advantageous.
  • Understanding medical schemes and admission processes
  • Must be able to use Microsoft Office 365 and have good typing abilities.
  • Billing and stock-taking experience is preferred.
