Exceptional Requirements

It is required that you are able to go through and pass the mandatory entrance fitness test.
In accordance with the requirements of the operation, substitutes can be used for posts.
Additionally, in accordance with the terms of the Conditions of Service, posts are required to put in overtime work whenever it is necessary.
Each and every lifeguard is obligated to carry out the directives that are given by the Lifeguard In-Charge.
It is required of incumbents that they always maintain a courteous relationship with the general public, as well as that they always be neat and presentable.

This includes wearing the uniform that is provided in order to maintain an acceptable dress code overall.

All employees are required to work regardless of the weather and must be willing to accept the risks and hazards that are inherent to their position.

Purpose of the Job

Lifeguarding responsibilities are taken on and carried out at designated beaches in the eThekwini area through the efforts of a team that has been established.
This is accomplished by utilizing one’s skills and knowledge to ensure the public’s safety in accordance with the established standards and procedures.

Principal Areas of Responsibility

Carries out duties as a lifeguard at any beach that has been designated.
The individual provides assistance with the management and supervision of the beach.
Provides assistance with the operation of power craft (IRB/Jet Ski).
Is in accordance with all of the training requirements.
Protects the Aquatic Safety Service’s reputation for being a professional organization

Obligations :

  • An exceptional level of physical fitness, as well as the capacity to submit to and successfully complete the entrance and quarterly skill and fitness examinations (as specified).
    The ability to hear and see clearly is sufficient.
  • You must be able to pass the annual medical examinations.

This position communicates with the Senior Lifeguard.

Requirements :

Grade 12.
With a current annual test, a lifeguard Certification or an equivalent is required.
Please provide a valid Level 2 First Aid certificate or demonstrate that you have obtained one within the past six months.
A minimum of twelve months of service with a Surf Lifesaving Club that is entirely voluntary, or experience working as a temporary or seasonal lifeguard during one holiday season.
Two-way radio operation and operation.

Requirements that are Preferred

A suitable level of education beyond the secondary level.
With a current annual test, a lifeguard award or an equivalent is required.
A valid first aid certificate at the level 2 or the ability to obtain one within the next six months of being appointed.
A license to operate a motor vehicle that is valid.
A crewman’s certificate for the International Rescue Boat (IRB) or an equivalent qualification.
18 months of experience that is relevant.
