MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

To ensure that systems are operating at their full potential by performing routine maintenance on the electrical equipment and plant that makes them up.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS

  • Ensure that all electrical machinery and equipment in the designated area is properly maintained so that the systems can function at their highest possible level of effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Be responsible for conducting daily inspections of all areas that fall under his or her purview in relation to the electrical machinery and equipment.
  • Maintenance of electricity distribution infrastructure and the associated control plant at SABC (high-voltage and low-voltage switchgears, high-voltage and low-voltage cable networks, and high-voltage and low-voltage Standby Generator Sets, Uninterruptible Power Supplies, building lights, Distribution Boards, Battery Tripping Units, Protection Relays, and Electricity Metering are some of the things that are included in this category.
  • You are responsible for providing the Line Manager with the descriptions and specifications for the necessary equipment and materials for performing maintenance or repairs on a variety of different items.
  • Making a few tweaks here and there, such as implementing changes to the different systems as directed
  • Contribute to the upkeep of the assets database by providing information on the various pieces of equipment and their operational locations.
  • Carry out fault finding and analysis of the underlying cause on electrical equipment.
  • Entering maintenance feedback into the maintenance management system so that it can be matched up with the appropriate work order or maintenance request.
  • Read and comprehend electrical schematics.
  • Lifting heavy tools and machinery without risking injury.
  • Comply with instructions regarding the modifications and installations to be made to various systems.
  • The installation, upkeep, and maintenance of submersible pumps.
  • Installation, maintenance, and repair of sewage treatment plants and pumps
  • You are tasked to carry out tasks and provide inputs for electrical projects on an as-needed basis.
  • Engage in cooperative efforts with various construction professionals, including contractors.
  • Contribute to the oversight of the conformance of projects to their specifications.
  • You should be ready to be on standby and to put in extra hours of work when necessary.
  • When the supervisor is not present, you are responsible for responding to any and all inquiries.
  • Carry out the procedure for energy isolation, and issue work permits to staff members as well as contractors.
  • Assuming the role of a leader and supervising work performed on plant and machinery to ensure that the work is carried out in a secure manner Participate in a multiethnic team working under the direction of the Electrical Supervisor.
  • Obey the line management’s directives and carry out any lawful instruction given to you.
  • Mentoring and training of newly hired employees as well as apprentices

REQUIREMENTS THAT ARE INHERENT TO THE JOB OR MINIMAL
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Qualified Artisan (with a minimum of an NTC3 or N3 and a Trade Test Certificate or an equivalent qualification)

EXPERIENCE

• Candidates must have a minimum of five years of experience working in a maintenance and building environment, and they must be proficient in using computers.

KNOWLEDGE

• Comprehensive understanding of electrical plant and equipment (including MV and LV switchgears, MV and LV reticulation, transformers, generators, uninterruptible power supplies, motors and starters, variable speed drive, protection relays, battery tripping units, metering, and BMS);
• Switching on high voltage systems;
• Advanced fault-finding techniques;
• Switching on high voltage systems.
