JOB DESCRIPTION
Hire Resolve’s client is seeking a Safety Officer located in Johannesburg within the Engineering sector.
The responsibility is to guarantee adherence to occupational health and safety legislation, oversee risk assessments, and execute safety programs to cultivate a secure working environment for all employees and contractors.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
HEALTH & SAFETY:
- Formulate, execute, and uphold health and safety policies and procedures in accordance with local requirements (OHS Act).
- Perform routine safety audits, inspections, and risk evaluations at all locations.
- Supervise workplace operations to guarantee adherence to prescribed safety regulations.
- Examine occurrences, accidents, and near-misses, and formulate corrective and preventive measures.
TRAINING AND AWARENESS:
- Implement safety orientations for new employees and contractors.
- Design and conduct safety training programs, encompassing emergency exercises, fire prevention, and first aid.
- Foster a culture of safety consciousness via continuous education and communication initiatives.
DOCUMENTATION AND REPORTING:
- Ensure precise documentation of occurrences, inspections, and compliance reports.
- Assemble and provide safety performance reports to management.
- Verify that all permits, certifications, and licenses are current.
REGULATORY COMPLIANCE:
- Remain informed about pertinent health and safety regulations and guarantee organizational adherence.
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies and external auditors during examinations or inquiries.
SAFETY EQUIPMENT AND INFRASTRUCTURE:
- Supervise the supply and upkeep of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain the integrity and accessibility of safety infrastructure, including signage, fire extinguishers, and emergency exits.
STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT:
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and site supervisors to resolve safety issues.
- Serve as the principal liaison for all safety-related issues on-site.
ESSENTIAL QULIFICATIONS:
- National Diploma or Degree in Safety Management or its equivalent.
- Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., SAMTRAC, NEBOSH).
- Membership in a pertinent professional organization (e.g., SACPCMP as a Safety Officer) is advantageous.
EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of 3-5 years in a Safety Officer position within the engineering or construction sectors.
- Demonstrated expertise in performing risk assessments and executing safety measures.
ABILTIES AND PROFICIENCIES:
- Thorough understanding of the OHS Act and pertinent legislation.
- Robust analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Superb communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Capability to perform under pressure and in a high-velocity setting.
- Expertise with the MS Office Suite.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and readiness to travel to project locations.
