Dis-Chem Pharmacies in Pretoria is looking to hire a security guard to fulfill the following duties:
Render a security service in accordance with the Private Security Industry Regulations Act 56 of 2001 as amended for the Dis-Chem Group that meets Dis-Chem’s security requirements to protect assets, property, and staff by creating a safe and secure environment, through identifying signs of criminal activities or disorder and investigating disturbances, all while adhering to legislation that is relevant to the position;
Security Guards Essential Qualifications.
Matriculation or a Senior Certificate with a Grade C accreditation from the PSIRA after completing the 12th grade.
A general minimum of at least three years of experience working in the retail industry, including in shopping malls and warehouses.
Advantageous:
At least one year of specific prior experience working in a role that is comparable.
Particulars of the Job.
Maintain vigilance and be aware of your surroundings in order to spot any suspicious goings-on, apprehend any criminals, or remove any violators in accordance with the legal authority invested in the industry and the Dis-Chem standard operating procedures for the particular post through.
Random patrols of the premises on a consistent basis to ensure the highest possible visibility and minimize any potential dangers.
Monitor and control access to the premises by recording and regulating entrance into the site by vehicles or pedestrian’s access points to ensure that only people with the appropriate authorization are allowed entry.
Investigate and report any signs of damage or unlawful entry to management as soon as they occur, and take appropriate action in order to protect Dis-Chem’s assets as quickly as possible.
Maintain as much of a visible presence as is practically possible in order to act as a deterrent against dishonorable acts such as theft, vandalism, and personal injury, and to discourage other illegal activities.
When greeting guests, customers, and employees, demonstrate a professional demeanor that is courteous and friendly, is approachable, and shows a willingness to assist others.
Control of entry includes searching employees, vendors, and customers of the company merchandisers.
Ensure that all registers and occurrence books are up to date and complete.
Cancel the purchases made by staff and the goods that were declared.
Ensure that the removal of waste is supervised and checked in accordance with Dis-Chem specifications.
Protect the company’s property and assets from any dishonest people, actions, or any other acts of malicious behavior that could result in financial loss for the company.
When you are on duty, you are required to remain constantly present at your post.
Maintain positive relations with both Dis-Chem’s internal and external customers through effective customer service practices.
Please report any behavior that seems odd or suspicious on the part of staff, customers, or suppliers.
Opening and closing procedures require one to be present, attentive, and watchful at both the beginning and end of each shift at the site.
At the end of each day, check to see that all of the doors and windows are locked.
Make sure that every water tap is turned off when it is appropriate to do so.
Perform random and continuous pat-downs and searches on the personnel each day.
Conduct thorough and appropriate searches of vehicles at multiple points throughout the day.
Report any suspicious incidents to management verbally and in detail, and then submit a written report with as much specific information as you can as soon as it is convenient to do so.
Make written or verbal reports to law enforcement officers as required by law and in accordance with the procedures established by Dis-Chem whenever it is necessary to do so. Contact the police and emergency services authorities.
When a problem situation or a crisis occurs or has been resolved, it is important to continue to observe the surrounding environment and to report to management on any discoveries made or changes that have been identified that make the situation worse.
After a crisis has passed, you should provide management, the police, or the appropriate authorities (such as the fire services in the case of an outbreak of fire) with a comprehensive written report regarding the crisis as well as your activities surrounding the crisis.
Maintain vigilance over the security alarms and/or surveillance cameras, and activate the detecting and emergency apparatus as required.
When working alone or after hours, such as during the night, continue to maintain ongoing surveillance of the premises. This can be done by patrolling the grounds, using closed-circuit camera monitoring, or alarm systems to detect and investigate any suspicious activities. This helps to ensure that only legal entrance is maintained to the premises.
In the event of an emergency, you must provide assistance and activate the emergency teams. For example, you must notify the first responders, clinic sisters, and managers.
Maintain order during evacuation procedures and at assembly points by providing specific directions or taking decisive actions to ensure the safety of lives and property. This can be accomplished by preventing stampedes, a breakdown in law and order, or illegal entry into the premises.
It is important to provide ongoing security advice as well as safety warnings and tips in order to guarantee that all safety and security precautions are followed.
Maintain vigilance and be on the lookout for any suspicious behaviors that could indicate a breach in the security measures that have been implemented at the location.
Rapidly interpret whatever is observed, then act in accordance with your interpretation.
When faced with a crisis, act promptly and appropriately, and maintain a state of heightened awareness to avoid being taken by surprise.
Be familiar with the best ways to respond to a variety of potentially hazardous situations in accordance with the standard operating procedures of the industry and Dis-Chem.
Calling for assistance should be done as quickly as possible in potentially life-threatening circumstances (such as armed robberies or assaults with lethal weapons), in order to reduce the risk of further injury or loss of life and property.
It is important to keep detailed records of daily activities as well as any unusual occurrences.
In order to stop illegal behavior before it starts, rules and regulations need to be strictly enforced.
In accordance with Dis-Chem and the standard operating procedures of the industry, perform special duties such as answering the phone, reading and responding to text messages and emails, and running important errands for the department.
