Function of the Traffic Student Intake Job

The Mobility Department will be looking for students interested in Traffic Law Enforcement to fill open positions in order to facilitate the completion of a Further Education and Training Certificate.
The Gene Louw College (GLTC), located in Brackenfell, will host the beginning of this training course on Monday, January 8, 2024.
It will be a twelve-month long program.

After receiving the Further Education and Training Certificate, candidates may be offered permanent employment against vacant and funded Provincial Inspector posts at one of the Provincial Traffic Centres; however, this employment is not guaranteed and will only be offered in the event that vacant and funded Provincial Inspector posts exist.
The numerous Traffic Centres can be found in the following locations:
Beaufort West, Caledon, George, Knysna, Laingsburg, Metro (Cape Town), Mossel Bay, Oudtshoorn, Swellendam, Vredenburg, Vredendal, and Worcester. In the application questions, you will be able to select only one of your preferred Centers that is located in the vicinity of your home.

Because the Provincial Traffic Law Enforcement provides a traffic law enforcement service that is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, candidates, once hired, will be expected to work shifts that include public holidays and Sundays, and they must also be willing to work additional hours when necessary;

Students will be subject to the College’s code of conduct as well as the College’s competency requirements.
Students will also be required to undergo extensive physical training while they are enrolled at the College.
Successful candidates will be required to find their own housing while attending classes at GLTC Brackenfell and will be responsible for their own transportation, meals, and accomodation fee for the duration of the 12-month program.

Traffic Student Intake Requirements Bare Minimums

A Grade 12 (also known as a Senior Certificate or an equivalent qualification) with a pass mark of at least 50% in each of the following subjects: mathematics/mathematics literacy, English, and an additional language;
Code B of a valid driver’s license for motor vehicles (learner’s permits are not accepted;
Applicants must be younger than 35 years old;
Anyone aged 35 or older does not meet the eligibility requirements due to the fact that this is a national requirement and will be disqualified from the process.

The applicant needs to be in good health both physically and medically;
Pregnant women will not be considered for the position because the physical activities involved in the recruitment process and subsequent training could be dangerous to the unborn child and/or the mother;

No prior convictions or pending charges in any jurisdiction;
Candidates must meet the requirements of South Africa’s Criminal Procedure Act 51 of 1977 in order to be eligible for appointment as an Authorized Officer and for appointment as a Peace Officer.

An applicant will be disqualified if they have any visible tattoos (on their hands, arms, upper chest, neck, or face) or body piercings (except for females who have one piercing in each ear), as these things do not complement uniformity in an environment where people wear uniforms;
Fluent in the mother tongue of the majority of residents in the area where the successful incumbents will be appointed to their positions;

The candidates who have been reserved for shortlisting will be subject to have their fingerprints checked by the SAPS, and they will also be required to go through the following tests: an interview, a knowledge test, a fitness test, a driving test, and a medical test as proof that the reserved candidates are able to engage in strenuous exercise;

Prior to admission, successful candidates will be required to submit to a full medical, psychological, and drug assessment at a provincial testing facility.
Successful candidates will also be required to submit to periodic fitness and drug testing assessments throughout the duration of the course.
Applicants are required to live in the immediate neighborhood of their preferred traffic centers, in the event that they are appointed.

Principal Components of Performance

Participants in the training program are required to earn a passing grade on the further education and Training Certificate for Road Traffic Law Enforcement.
Observance of the terms and conditions of the signed 12-month contract throughout the course of the training program, which includes participation in a practical deployment on a 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week shift system when necessary.

Traffic Student Intake Capabilities

Possessing strong written and verbal communication skills in at least two of the province’s three official languages;
Skills in interpersonal communication and public relations;
Ability to work effectively under pressure;
Personality that is assertive and self-assured;
Capability to work both independently and cooperatively;
The ability to write reports.

Compensatory payment:

Throughout the entirety of the training period, you will be awarded a training stipend in the amount of R5,000.00 each and every month.

A Few Notes

However, due to the requirements that the applicant must be physically fit and able to do strenuous exercises as part of the core modules of the qualification, persons with disabilities are excluded from the training opportunity.
Although the Department promotes and applies the principles of employment equity and persons with disabilities, the Department also excludes persons with disabilities from the training opportunity.
