Southern Africa’s integrated value chain is supported by the six coal mines operated by Sasol Mining.
The majority of coal delivered to Secunda Synfuels Operations (SSO) is used as a feedstock for gasification, while the remainder is converted into electricity.
The coal supplied to the Sasolburg Operations (SO) is used to generate both electricity and steam. Through the connection between the Twistdraai Export Plant and the Richards Bay Coal Terminal, we also provide coal for power generation to our international customers.

Regarding the position’s duties and objectives

The Miner is responsible for achieving section-level performance goals by planning, organizing, and directing the daily operations of the mine.

FUNCTIONAL OUTPUTS

Ensure that the objectives are achieved.
Boost performance while simultaneously reducing expenses.
Ensure that the team adheres to all COPs and SOPs.
Ensure that employees work in a safe and healthy environment.
Develop the skills of the in-section personnel.
Conduct section inspections to eliminate potential hazards.
Maintain compliance with the law and Sasol Mining’s specifications
Determine and implement the most effective methods.
Contribute to the training and growth of subordinates.
Effectively and precisely carry out administrative support responsibilities

REQUIREMENTS

The following are the required skills and areas of specialization:

Grade 11 (or equivalent) both with Maths and English/Business English
Valid Miner’s Trade Test Certificate/Blasting
Blasting certificate
Flame proofing
8 gases
Able to pass medical
Having obtained driver’s license
Competent A certificate
2 – 5 years’ experience in an Underground Coal Mining environment (Fiery Mines knowledge)
