Concerning the job Description of a General Assistant
Ensure thorough customer service in the store. Stock loading and merchandising, shelf price labeling, and housekeeping within designated area of responsibility
Requirements
Grade 12 or a minimum of one year of work-related experience
Ability to communicate in English as well as the other languages spoken in the geographic area where the position is available
Capability to perform basic calculations correctly
Must be available to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
Must be able to work under pressure.
Position Description
Customer Support
Recognize all customers and determine their needs
Correctly advise customers on product
Assist the customer with any product inquiries.
Respond to customer complaints as soon as possible.
Add-on sales, such as paint vs. paint brushes, thinners, and so on.
Ensure efficient customer service by ensuring that all customer purchases are loaded on time.
Ensure that the customer’s purchases are loaded carefully so that neither the goods nor the customer’s vehicle are damaged.
Inform customers about the additional services that are available:
Delivery service / large deposits
Severing of glass
Make a reading list.
Credit-granting programs
Personalized orders
Ordering from a distance
VIC Customer Service Program
Product Knowledge certification is required.
Must be available in the aisle of responsibility
Housekeeping
Ensure that your area is free of obstacles, that stock is merchandised as soon as it arrives, and that customers can enter and exit your aisle without risk of injury or irritation.
Correct shelf price labeling within the scope of responsibility.
Ensure that the Checklist is completed as needed while on duty with the Canteen and the Toilet / Shower schedule.
Safety Requirements (OHSA)
Safety (OHSA) compliance (e.g., use of safety equipment, ensuring customer and staff safety) within scope of responsibility
Ensure that the merchandise in your area of responsibility (racking and bulk) is safe for customers and colleagues to move around the store.
Report any inconsistencies to the Store Manager.

Security and Loss Prevention
Identify any gaps in the displays, investigate the causes, and notify management of any concerns.
Be on the lookout for suspicious behavior or people, and report any suspicions to management.
